As of April 2007, Beacon Photography has been open for 10 years. It is a major milestone considering 85% of all photography startups fail within 3 years. I have managed to survive and grow the business despite the recession of 2008-2012, despite the age of digital photography where almost everyone has a camera, and despite being in the small isolated town of Winthrop. I am so grateful to still be in business, and hope to still capture, print and frame photos 10 years from now.
It is a blessing to be creative every day, to give joy to so many customers, and to have the flexibility to be a family man first. I think there are a lot of reasons why I have made it this far, but none more important than my wife’s support. She endured the first two years, which were definitely the hardest, and continues to support me. I can’t thank her enough for that. I also want to thank my extended family, especially my mother and father, who have always been there for me and my kids. And lastly, thank you for the incredible patronage of my customers. Your business and joy are what keep me going. Many of you have become my friends over the years, and I genuinely feel like a part of the community now.
